India vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights: Australia crash to 99-run loss despite lower-order fightback

India vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights

India defeated Australia by 99 runs in the rain-interrupted second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in Indore on Sunday.

Batting first, India amassed 399 with centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Australia were then set a revised target of 317 in 33 overs after the day's second rain interruption, but were bowled out for 217 in 28.2 overs.

Gill set the tone for India's innings with a fluent 108 off 96 balls, while Iyer followed suit with a well-paced 105 off 90 balls. The duo put on a 200-run partnership for the second wicket to lay the foundation for India's big score.

Suryakumar Yadav also chipped in with a quickfire 72 off 37 balls, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan also made handy contributions.

In reply, Australia started off poorly, losing their top three wickets for just 30 runs. However, Marnus Labuschagne (72) and David Warner (59) put on a 107-run partnership for the fourth wicket to revive Australia's innings.

But after both batsmen were dismissed, Australia's innings collapsed again. They lost their last seven wickets for just 80 runs, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picking up three wickets each.

Despite a lower-order fightback from Sean Abbott (30) and Cameron Green (22), Australia were unable to get over the line and suffered a heavy defeat.
